Description

Ava is back in Windermere for the August holidays — sun, sea, mango trees, and the Caribbean island she still dreams about.

But this time, everything feels different.

Leo, her island friend, has spent the past year in the city attending school. He thought coming home would feel easy. Instead, the island seems quieter, old friendships feel uncertain, and the forest no longer hums the way it once did. Leo isn’t sure where he fits anymore — not in the city, and not quite at home either.

When Ava, Leo, and Ava’s loyal dog, Sass, discover an injured fawn hidden near Nana’s fence, their vacation takes an unexpected turn. Caring for the fragile creature draws them into a slower island rhythm — one rooted in patience, responsibility, and paying attention. With Nana’s gentle wisdom and the steady guidance of Mr. Darius, the children begin to understand that healing doesn’t happen all at once… and neither does growing up.

Set against the lush backdrop of Caribbean island life, Ava, Leo & Sass: The Return – Part 1 is a heartfelt middle-grade chapter book for readers ages 8–12. It explores friendship, belonging, and what it means to return to a place you love — and see it through more mature eyes.

This is not a story of loud adventures or fantasy magic.
It’s a story about quiet strength, care, and discovering that growing up doesn’t end the magic — it changes how you see it.
